In-laws getting in the way...

my marriage has been hitting rocky roads lately because the in-laws know my stand as far as what i feel about jehovah's witnesses.

every 3 days or so they send my wife a letter full of propoganda and how she needs to come back home, yadda yadda.

it truly is recking my marriage.

In every circumstance we'll have problems but if we have jah on our side the troubles will be easier to get through and we'll come out better persons from them and then those problems will be gone and we'll be strong because we handled them his way.

Tell your wife, this is very true. You havn't left Jehovah, and there is no reason to think we don't have his holy spirit. JW's seem to assume when one leaves the WT they throw the baby out with the bathwater, forsaking belief in Jehovah, Jesus and the Bible too! I recently did research for my sis-in-law and came up with a number of WT references showing (from the WT standpoint) we all can ask for Jehovah's holy spirit. Here they are, and maybe they will help your wife realize, we all can ask for help (even though the WT also says we need them for salvation). Here are a couple.

20 What a powerful force this spirit is! But how can Christians today avail themselves of it? First, Jesus said we should ask for it, so why not do just that? Pray to Jehovah to give you this wonderful gift not only in times of stress but on every occasion. In addition, read the Bible so that holy spirit can speak to you. (Compare Hebrews 3:7.) Meditate on what you read and apply it so that holy spirit can be an influence in your life. (Psalm 1:1-3)

3 If something is robbing you of peace, joy, or some other godly quality, it would be wise to pray for God’s holy spirit, or active force. Why? Because Jehovah’s spirit produces good fruitage that helps a Christian to face problems, trials, and temptations

Letter from governing body concerning 1975

here is a letter dated may 12,1975 from the governing body .

My husband, Rockhound, was the PO in 1972, the when the initial elder arrangement of that time was started. He went to one of the first schools for elders, in Chicago. One of his instructors showed on the "board" why Armageddon could come even sooner than October of 1975. I had relatives who sold all they had, knowing they had enough to live on till October 1975, and then the new system would be here. It's amazing to look back now and not wonder why we stayed for another 25 years!!! As we were making our exit from the WT we would be so angry everytime someone commented that the WT never said 1975 would bring Armageddon. They may have not said it in those words at the meetings, but what they did print left you with no other reasoning. I applaud those who left at that time, realizing what a farce all of this was.

An Elder...No longer serving as an Elder.

my wife was at the meeting last night, ... and she told me this morning that an announcement was made that.

one of the elders decided to step aside.

he was so hard core it made me sick.

It always grated at me when I heard someone say so-and-so "stepped down", as though they were above everyone else (in fact they think they are). Anyway, we would always wisper "stepped aside"...just a thought.

I sent him a letter, here is his reply!

i was pretty excited to read it, but only was i disappointed with some of the things he said, and ill explain that after you read it, so here it is: .

It seems it doesn't really matter that you have honest questions, what matters is that you are questioning the authority of the faithful slave. The Bible says to test out Jehovah and see that he is good, but we better not test out the Watchtower, they are beyond that. The eyes and ears shut tightly to any reasoning. It's really something when you've taken the "blinders" off and stand back to look at how closed minded JW's really are. Even at the door, as long as the householder listens, things are good, but let the householder know a little of the Bible, and a JW will feel threatened, that maybe they are not teaching, but someone is trying to teach them. They are so very quick to say we were weak, instead of thinking there really might be some real serious issues. Our friends and family seem to think we were willing to just toss away 50+ years with just a whim!

Hang in there. You never know what will happen in the future for your friend to have reason to begin his own search, remembering the things you said.

i was having a discussion with family about leaving the jw's recently.

we were talking about the us verses them mentality one develops as part of the religion.

i tried to bolster my case by saying that only jw's will survive armageddon.

Letting the Bible speak without any pre-conceived ideas may be hard to do, especially if you've been a JW. But there are numerous scriptures showing you can't earn salvation. It is truly a gift. Titus 3:4-8 says over and over again, that salvation doesn't come from works. Romans 11:6 says if it is by works, it wouldn't prove to be by underserved kindness. The works spoken of in the Bible are reflected in our daily lives and how we treat others, if it be Christlike or not.

evolution or creation? lets talk...

ok, lets have a discussion about where we all came from, evolution or creation?

(or whatever you beleive in of course) every one put down there main reasons, along with reasonable facts and backup as to why.. .

hopefully this doesnt start to many arguments, lol.. .

I personally don't believe I could look at the universe, both the vastness beyond our earth, as well as the universe under the microscope, with all it's detail preciseness, and think it all happened. I definitely believe in creation, and a creator. After all, I think even evolutionists would have to agree, it all got a start somewhere...even the "big bang" theory had to have a beginner. I do know there are many things that have mutated (evolved?) from one thing to another. Also, if Jehovah didn't create animals to eat meat (as the WT says), then they must have evolved to have the need to eat only meat etc. (Where would we be if coyotes didn't eat mice, etc...the world would be overflowing with mice). I mentioned on an earlier post, that Russell believed in theistic evolution, that God let the waters "swarm" with living creatures, not necessarily creating each life form individually, but started the process and let it go from there. I believe he thought that the only life form Jehovah directly created was man. You can find information on that in "The Truth Shall Make You Free" 1943, p65. Also, Ken Raines wrote, "The Watchtower's Endoresment of Theistic Evolution", which gave quite a few references to older publications indicating Russell did believe this way.

It's interesting to note when Zephaniah was written, at least according to the NWT, about 648 bc. It has amazed me how nearly all of the Old Testament dealt with the nation of Israel and Judah, and their coming destruction, then their deliverance by Jehovah. It adds to the confusion that the Bible books are not in chronological order. Even the WT says these prophecies are dealing with Israel and Judah, but then adds a second fulfillment, and sometimes a third.
